The fourth frame was built last year prior to the Mullineaux cruise and is exclusively for imaging and water sampling, and is smaller and somewhat lighter (?Mini?-TowCam, Figure 2c). It was built to provide rougher weather capability for launch/recovery and was used very successfully in rough weather during the Oct. 2005 New England Smt. Cruise when Alvin diving was severely curtailed because of poor weather conditions. Scientists were still able to collect TowCam images which proved to be very useful to plan the few Alvin dives that were able to be conducted (L. Mullineaux, pers. commun., 2005).
