WHOI Waypoints: Newly Minted Oceanographers


Nineteen MIT/WHOI Joint Program graduate students assembled for graduation ceremonies at Woods Hole in June—led by Sheri White, who holds the traditional ship’s belaying pin (the Joint Program’s nautical equivalent of the academic mace used in commencement processions). Rear Admiral Jay Cohen, newly named Chief of Naval Research, who earned an Ocean Engineering master’s degree from the Joint Program in 1972, gave the com­­mencement address.
