Tagging a Basking Shark

A professional harpoonist, Captain Bill Chaprales aboard the fishing vessel Ezyduzit out of Sandwich, Mass., tags a basking shark with a device that will record where the shark swims for up to a year before the tag pops off and transmits the data back to scientists on shore. The process does not injure sharks. (Video courtesy Li Ling Hamady, MIT/WHOI Joint Program)
