Biologist Carin Ashjian led a 40-day cruise to the Chuchki and Bering Seas to study the Arctic ocean ecosystem during the onset of winter. Aboard the U.S. icebreaker Healy, the science team sampled water properties and marine organisms to learn what changes as sunlight diminishes and sea ice forms.
