Larry Pratt is a senior scientist in the Physical Oceanography Dept. and teacher in the WHOI/MIT Joint Program. He also a fine art photographer, represented by the Panopticon Gallery in Boston. His artistic adventures often merge research interests on meandering ocean currents, waves and turbulence, with the dynamics and form of the human body. This work currently includes a collaboration with Contrapose Dance of Boston aimed at the creation of choreography based on the physics and visualization of natural fluid flows in the ocean and atmosphere. Larry also uses chaos theory to understanding mixing in the ocean and this work often results in striking visuals (see below). His collaboration with Anastasia could result in sculpture that will aid with visualization of the three dimensional objects that delineate the mixing.
