Thanks to the philanthropy of astute donors, the Ocean Institutes (OIs) provide critical funding to conduct high-risk, high-reward science with an impressive track record of significant follow-on funding from federal agencies and private foundations. Each year, through a competitive proposal process, investigators working in the fertile area of interdisciplinary research are invited to apply for the seed money that will enable them to test new ideas.
In addition to the OIs annual call, this year (2016) there is a call for proposal for the new WHOI Catalyst Program, which supports the design and execution of new, cutting-edge scientific initiatives at WHOI.
Please note that an individual may be a PI or a co-PI on only one (1) Ocean Institute thematic proposal, and can only submit one WHOI Catalyst proposal per year. WHOI Catalyst PIs are eligible to serve as PI on a separate Ocean Institute PI Award. For example, if a scientist is a PI or (co-PI) on one Ocean Institute proposal, that scientist may also be a PI on WHOI Catalyst proposal.
