Afternoon of Coastal Science Talks

November 13, 2008
The Coastal Ocean Institute sponsored an afternoon of coastal science talks.

"Interactions between Tsunamis and Underwater Geological Processes" Workshop

October 30-31, 2006
This workshop discussed existing knowledge and future research directions in th processes of seafloor motion that generate tsunami waves, and dissipation and run-up processes in the coastal zone.

Coastal Ecosystem Research Initiative Workshop

October 27, 2006
The goals of the workshop were to identify funding and program development opportunities for WHOI researchers, and to articulate appropriate strategies in response to those opportunities. Invited presentations in the morning were followed by breakout working groups in the afternoon.

"The Moving Shoreline" Forum

April 26-29, 2004
The combination of human-influenced changes on coastal systems and the natural, passive inundation associated with rising sea level renders many coastal areas more vulnerable to severe storms and floods. The dynamic nature of these coastal environments also makes them compelling from a scientific viewpoint. The time is right for integrating the application of new technologies to coastal studies, and for linking highly detailed observations with predictive models. We propose to host a scientific forum to foster research ideas and identify primary approaches to studying shoreline change.
