The building, made possible with $8.1 million from the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), will provide essential laboratory and office space for several ongoing large projects including:

OOI Coastal and Global Scale NodesThe Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) - Coastal and Global Scale Nodes
OOI is a $300 million infrastructure project sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF).  WHOI is the lead implementing organization for the coastal and global components of this initiative.

Martha's Vineyard Coastal ObservatoryThe Martha's Vineyard Coastal Observatory (MVCO)
MVCO is a state of the art underwater research facility and test site constructed and operated by WHOI.

Ocean-Bottom SeismometerThe Ocean Bottom Seismometer Instrument Pool (OBSIP)
OBSIP is an NSF funded facility providing instrumentation in support of marine geology, seismology and geodynamics research.

The Environmental Sample Processor Laboratory (ESP)The Environmental Sample Processor Laboratory (ESP)
ESP will perform procedures for genetic identification of marine organisms and for clarifying their role in biogeochemistry cycles.
