Dennis Dupont, who supervised fabrication of the ship's hull, measures to fit a keel bar into the aluminum hull. Aluminum is sturdy yet keeps the vessel light, allowing it to travel quickly to coastal areas including Martha's Vineyard and Massachusetts Bay. Tioga will also be used for research in waters as far as New York and Maine. (Photo by Tom Kleindinst, WHOI)
