Hung By the Lab Bench with Care

December 26, 2014

Preservation bags and vials sit ready for samples on a lab bench during a 2014 cruise aboard the R/V Thomas G. Thompson. Biologists on the cruise were looking at the genetic and physiologic features that allow organisms to call the deepest parts of the ocean home. Individual species of fish, amphipods, and other animals have adapted to specific conditions throughout the ocean, but members of the HADES project are trying to understand how life in general thrives regardless of depth.(Photo by Ken Kostel, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
