A Call for Community Input

With the formation of the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) underway, we believe the development of a biological/biogeochemical component is critical. Such an undertaking requires community-wide involvement. To facilitate this process we have compiled here a draft framework for the community's consideration.

Specific objectives of this "interactive white paper" are to:

To identify key elements of the proposed Global Biogeochemical Flux (GBF) component of the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) that will build upon planned physical and cyber infrastructure for rapid distribution of crucial data and samples to the research community;
Outline core observation and measurement strategies;
Highlight technological advances that will allow these objectives to be realized; and
To stimulate interest and discussion amongst the ocean research community.
