Antarctic Protist Culture Collection

Search By Environment

Antarctic samples were collected from water, slush, ice and sediment environments using the methods shown below. Water samples were collected between 30M and 70M. The LExEN group found a layer of extremely dense protists between the snow layer and underlying ice (slush). Areas of color in ice cores were cut out and thawed in the lab.Sediment samples were collected from depths ranging from 400M to 4000M. All samples were kept below 4C at all times including during transport and isolation.
