Isobaric Gas-Tight Sampler The isobaric gas-tight (IGT) sampler was designed by Jeff Seewald at WHOI to take samples directly from hydrothermal vents and return them, in-tact and at pressure, to the surface for analysis. The instrument was also used to take the only native samples of oil and gas flowing from the ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
