A DNA microarray from the starlet anemone Nematostella. Each dot on the grid represents a DNA sequence from the anemone. The dots glow yellow (from a light-emitting dye) if an animal has activated (expressed) that particular gene. Biologist Ann Tarrant and colleagues will use this type of array to determine what genes are activated in anemones exposed to oil.
