Return to Text

Split core from the Santa Monica basin off California collected on a Sea Education Association cruise aboard the Robert C. Seamans. The top of core containing softer sediment is to the left. The thin alternating black and green/brown layer may represent annual layers corresponding to rainy and dry seasons. The core diameter is four inches. (Sea Education Association)
