Science Objectives

Determining the effects of ocean acidification on deep-water corals, surveys of potential new deep-water coral sites.

Science Activities

Collection of live deep-water corals, collection of water samples both by Alvin and by CTD casts over the dive sites, ship-board experiments on coral physiology, push cores in coral habitats, integration of sensors (pO2 and PCO2 optodes) with Sentry.

In collaboration with Chris Martens lab, we are currently planning on bringing pO2 and PCO2 optodes for integration on Sentry. These are stand-alone sensors that will simply need a home on the vehicle.
