The R/V Nathanial B. Palmer will be departing Christchurch, New Zealand on October 25th. Transit time from Christchurch to the Ross Sea is approximately seven days. We will be crossing the circumpolar current. There are no land formations to counter force the fetch at the circumpolar current. These are some of the roughest seas in the world. We will also be returning to Christchurch the same way for a total transit time of fourteen days.
