ITM3 was deployed on a 1.0 m thick ice floe in the Beaufort Sea on August 25, 2013 at 76° 55.4 N, 138° 50.9 W as part of the Beaufort Gyre Observing System (BGOS) during the JOIS 2013 cruise on the CCGS Louis S. St. Laurent. On the same icefloe, ITP 70 , a Naval Postgraduate School Arctic Ocean Flux Buoy (AOFB), a US Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) Ice Mass Balance Buoy (IMB), an autonomous atmospheric chemistry buoy (O-Buoy) , and a wave buoy were also installed.
