Description:
I can provide the Mauna Loa Observatory record of atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations from the mid 1950's to today. The record is a time series that shows a steady increase in the mean annual concentration of CO2. It also shows a dramatic seasonal cycle caused by northern hemisphere forest growth and senescence. The data can used to discuss topics such as scientific observational techniques, anthropogenic CO2 increase, photosynthesis and oxidation of organic matter (the seasonal cycle), and global climate change. Applied math and history (or social studies) lessons can also be tied to the CO2 dataset.
