“Getting Science Back to Sea” Cruise Planning Town Hall

On 29 May 2020, WHOI Marine Operations, in tandem with WHOI Human Resources and members of the WHOI science community, invited all employees to attend a virtual town hall about preparing for going back to sea on research expeditions in the time of COVID-19.

“Getting Science Back to Sea” was a presentation and discussion to offer suggestions for how to implement UNOLS guidelines on any vessel for any scientist.

In the linked slide deck and presentation recording, you will find an interpretation of the UNOLS guidelines for how to implement safe science expeditions. It focuses on broad-scale science and operator concerns and mitigation methods; and reviews risk analysis methodology, risk categories, and multiple cruise planning considerations. It closes with a few case studies and scheduling updates.

Also linked is an example risk assessment template.
