Scenic - "Dirty Ice"

Ice is white, right? That was my assumption before we left on this cruise. I had no idea that sediment and plankton could make pristine arctic ice look this "dirty." I chose this image because it looks more like the surface of the moon than the Arctic Ocean. Without a familiar object to provide scale to this image, it could be a vast lake or a puddle in a dirty snowbank in a supermarket parking lot. This "melt pond" happened to be about 6-10 feet long.
