The operational instrumentation activities within the Physical Oceanography department are coordinated under an umbrella group known as Physical Oceanography Observational Laboratories (POOL). Meetings of the lab managers and interested scientists on the first Monday of each month work to:

• facilitate access to the shared use instrumentation from both inside and outside the department,
• coordinate the use of instruments and people,
• maintain and update the shared instrumentation,
• improve the ability of the department to recruit and retain skilled personnel.

Links to the various groups included under POOL are given on the sidebar to the left. We encourage inquiries for their use from anyone needing expert support of their seagoing research. Those inquiries should be addressed to pool@whoi.edu.
