Domoic acid in southern Brazil This mail is to let you know that during a pilot monitoring program at Santa Catarina, southern Brazil (27o S), we have detected in a natural sample from the coast domoic acid produced during a bloom of Pseudonitzschia sp. Several potential toxic species have been previously identified in the region. Pseudonitzschia is usually present, but at this time it has dominated in the sample. Domoic acid was extracted from the net concentrated sample and determined by HPLC with diode array detection. Studies have been carried out to determine the causative organism and if is there contaminated mussel in the region.
