Texas survey for Pfiesteria - 2000

Texas Red Tide Workers:

Under an EPA grant, TPWD conducted a survey of the Texas coast in 2000 to look for Pfiesteria, the dinoflagellate responsible for large fish kills in North Carolina and Chesapeake bay estuaries. Pfiesteria was found in samples from four sites along the Texas coast, including Port Aransas, the Arroyo Colorado, Dickinson Bay and Oso Bay. There is no evidence that Pfiesteria has caused fish kills in those areas. For more information, contact Dr. James Simons at (512) 912-7034 or james.simons@tpwd.state.tx.us.
