HEMIMENIIDAE Salvini-Plawen, 1978
Type genus. -- Hemimenia Nierstrasz, 1902.
 

Description. -- With two genera, Hemimenia Nierstrasz, 1902 and Archaeomenia Thiele, 1906. Several characters are held in common with the Neomeniidae: stout body shape; elongate, rimmed, upright solid spicules; midgut sacculations; lack of paired ventral salivary glands; reproductive system. Hemimeniidae are differentiated from Neomeniidae by a thinner cuticle and lack of epidermal papillae. Hemimenia, in common with Neomeniidae, lacks a radula; in Archaeomenia the radula is polystichous.
