Contributed papers of 2-4 pages, graphics inclusive, are due August 14, 1998. We intend to publish these on the web in HTML format and to make them available to participants before the meeting. In HTML the prose appears as clear text, providing us with some submission format options. Acceptable submission formats are listed and discussed below. Please attempt to envision how they will look in HTML format, quantity 2 to 4 video screens (2-5 pages printed ?? ). We prefer each paper to be translatable to a single web page (HTML file) with embedded links to graphic images (files), rather than a series of linked text and figure pages.
Use standard (Times) font, 10 or 11 point fontsize (or default fontsize). Include title, author names, affiliations and addresses at the beginning.
Please FTP material to sst.whoi.edu, user anonymous, directory incoming.
Provide a readme file with a name based upon yours (e.g. readme_d_farmer)
listing your files and explaining your format. Please include your name
as part of your filenames to reduce chances for ambiguity (i.e. avoid names
like figure1.gif). Please notify T. Duda when files are submitted.
Graphics should be embedded in Word text. Please also supply them as
separate files (this is the only choice for the other formats). Preferred
formats are JPEG and GIF. Other formats can be translated by us but the
quality of the GIF or JPEG result can not be guaranteed.
We have made web pages from MS Word-generated RTF files which faithfully reproduce their appearance in Word. This was done with the Office-97 version of Word running under Windows NT 4.0. There is a public domain rtf2html program which we can try in the event of problems arising from observed incompatibility of the many versions of Word.
We have not yet tried the latex2html public domain software. We believe that the appearance will be different in HTML than in LaTeX (or TeX).
Authors have control of the appearance of HTML submissions.
We reserve the right to adjust any paper in any format for the purposes
of uniformity, or may return it to the author for adjustment.
