In Winsor's model, fresh water (aqua) flowing out of the Hudson Strait meets but doesn't mix much with salty ocean currents (blue and red). The result is a current of fairly fresh water flowing southwest toward Cape Hatteras, rather than mixing farther east into the North Atlantic. (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
