Eric H. Frank Jr.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death October 1, 2000 of retiree Eric H. Frank, Jr. at Falmouth Hospital. He was 73.

Eric H. Frank, Jr. was born in Boston January 6, 1927 and graduated from Waltham High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, after which he attended Northeastern University, graduating in 1952 with a degree in business administration. After a brief position with Simonds Saw and Steel Company in Boston as a salesman, Eric worked as a cash accountant from 1953 to 1957 at Sherman Paper Products Company in Newton, MA. He then joined Sanborn Company in Waltham, a division of Hewlett Packard, serving as manager of the Systems and Procedures Department at the firm.

Wishing to remain in Massachusetts when the department reorganized, Eric chose to relocate to Cape Cod, where he summered for many years. He joined the Institution staff in 1966 as a Research Associate working with Mel Rosenfeld in the information processing and computer group in the Ocean Engineering Department. He was named Systems and Procedures Manager in 1977, a position he held until he retired from the Institution in 1989.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey E. (Wentworth) Frank, of Falmouth; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Breivogel and Nancy E. Baker, both of Falmouth; a son, Thomas E. Frank, of Waltham, MA; and seven grandchildren.
