Jack N. Lindon

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death March 8, 2001, of retiree Jack Nickles Lindon of Pocasset at age 81.

Jack Lindon was born January 7, 1920, in San Francisco, CA. He attended Bradley County High School, joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1939, and served in World War II. During his long career in the Marines, Jack attended various military electronics schools and became a project and electronics officer at the Marine Corps’s Quantico, VA, base, where he was responsible for testing new electronics equipment being considered for use by the Marine Corps. After his retirement from the Marine Corps in 1960, Jack moved to Wakefield, Massachusetts. He soon joined Honeywell Information Systems, Inc. in Billerica, MA, as Manager of the Outplacement Center. While working at Honeywell he attended Northeastern University evenings, majoring in business, from 1970 to 1973.

Jack left Honeywell in September 1975 and joined the Institution staff that same month as Personnel and Benefits Administrator, working with Bernie Zentz. In 1979 he was named Assistant Personnel Manager, responsible for benefits and marine employment. He retired from the Institution in September 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie (Soule) Lindon, of Pocasset, MA; two sons, Jack Nelson Lindon of Alpharetta, GA, and Sanford K. Lindon of North Reading, MA; and one daughter, Dorothy H. Lindon, of Amherst, NH.

Funeral services will be held March 12, 2001, at 1:30 p.m. at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home on MacArthur Boulevard in Bourne. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
