Mary Ortolani

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has received word of the death May 19, 2002 of retiree Mary Ortolani of Sagamore, MA. She was 93.

Mary Ortolani worked in Purchasing, now Procurement, at WHOI for more than 27 years.

Born March 20, 1909, Mary was a graduate of Bourne High School and received her B.S. degree in home economics in 1931 from Framingham State College. She worked in the War Department at Camp Edwards performing general clerical work from 1941 to 1946. In June of 1946 she joined the Institution staff as a clerk-typist working with William Schroeder. In 1952 she was promoted to Secretary, working with Delmar Jenkins. She retired from the Institution in March 1974.

Survivors include a brother, George A. Ortolani of Sagamore, MA; and two nephews. Burial in Sandwich was private.
