Frederick A. Brauneis

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death July 1, 2003, of Frederick A. Brauneis of East Falmouth, MA at Falmouth Hospital. He was 79.

Fred Brauneis was born August 25, 1923, and attended Roslindale High School, graduating in 1941. After service in the U.S. Air Force, Fred was self employed for many years in the building industry. He lived in Falmouth for 54 years, joining the WHOI staff in October 1972 as a carpenter in the Carpenter Shop working with Ed Phares and others. He retired in December 1988 but returned to work on a casual basis until June 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Marion A (Waller) Brauneis of East Falmouth, MA; two daughters, Judith A. Hale of Oklahoma and Cynthia L. Nelson of Easton, MA; two sons, David A. Brauneis and Bruce F. Brauneis, both of Falmouth, MA; and five grandchildren.

An interment service will be held at the VA National Cemetery in Bourne on Thursday, July 3, at 1:15 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 7, at the Waquoit Congregational Church, 15 Parsons Lane, Waquoit, MA 02536. A reception will follow the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred’s memory may be made to the Waquoit Congregational Church Building Fund.
