J. Lamar Worzel

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of former employee J. Lamar Worzel on December 26, at his home in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was 89.

J. Lamar began working at WHOI in 1940 as Physicist Research Associate. He left in 1946.

J. Lamar, a pioneering geophysicist and engineer who helped shape human understanding of how sound travels through the Oceans, co-founded Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. Please see full obituarty on Lamont Doherty Earth Observatories’ Web site:
