Patricia (Souza) Askew

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of retiree Patricia (Souza) Askew on October 2, at Cape Cod Hospital.  She was 77.

Pat began working at WHOI in 1986 as a staff assistant II in the Controller’s Office.  She retired in 1995.

Pat-Pat, she was fondly called by most, loved her animals and enjoyed caring for and walking her own and her grand dogs as well as many others at Eagle Pond.  She also enjoyed many worldly travels with her granddaughter Sarah.  Daily company and conversation with her family and many friends was a priority.  She was an avid reader and loved attending the opera, having lunch with the girls, and attending exercise class.  She was a fanatical sports fan following tennis and football passionately.  She was a huge fan of the W.V. University Mountaineers football team and had many fond memories of her years spent in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Patricia was the loving mother of Debra Askew of Centerville; Douglas J. and his wife Lynne Askew of Cotuit; Donald Askew of Hyannis; and David and his wife Jane Askew of Rochester, Mass., She was the grandmother of Sarah E. Benvie of Centerville, Mass.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated in Christ the King Chapel, 3 Job’s Fishing Rd., Mashpee, Mass., on Saturday, October 10 at 10:00 am. There will be no visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the MSPCA Animal Shelter, 1577 Falmouth Rd., Centerville, Mass., 02632.
