Paul R. Boutin

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of retiree Paul R. Boutin, at his home in New Bedford on April 11, following a period of declining health. He was 80.

Paul was the son of the late Roland J. Boutin and Leona (Devost) Boutin. He was born and resided in New Bedford all of his life. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

Paul was a U.S. Army veteran. He was employed at Aerovox for 15 years.  Paul began his career at WHOI in 1964 as a research assistant in the Geology & Geophysics Department.  In 1970, he transferred to AOP&E.  In 1971, he was promoted to research associate.  In 1982, he was promoted to research specialist.  He retired in 1996.
 
He was the husband of Elaine (Lima) Boutin with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. He is also survived by his sister Gertrude Galipeau and her husband Maurice and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Wilfred Boutin.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 22, at 10:00 a.m., in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4256 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford, Mass. Visitation will be in the church prior to the Mass from 9:15 -10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
