Richard A. Carvalho

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of retiree Richard A. Carvalho, on February 18, at the Genesis Healthcare in Falmouth.  He was 68.

Born in New Bedford, MA, he was the owner of Richie’s Truck and Auto Repair in New Bedford, MA. He began his career at WHOI in 1993 as a temporary relief oiler until 1997 when he became a starter oiler.  He worked on both the R/V Atlantis II and the R/V Knorr. He left in 2000. He also worked at the Steamship Authority.

Richard was a member of the Falmouth Elks and enjoyed playing pool and socializing with his friends.

Richards leaves his wife Janice as well as his children; Richard of Port St. Lucie, FL; Gregory and Peter both of Falmouth; a daughter Rhonda Ferreira of Acushnet; a stepdaughter Tracy Cassidy of Shutsbury, MA; two sisters Delores Gomes and Janet Perry; and a brother Raymond Carvalho, all of New Bedford. He also leaves four grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life was held on Wednesday, February 27, at the Falmouth Elks, 140 Palmer Ave., Falmouth.
