Hands-on Science Open House
DATE: Saturday, May 25, 2013
TIME: 10:00 a.m. to noon, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
PLACE: Rinehart Coastal Research Center (193 Oyster Pond Rd.), Room 101, Woods Hole
How fast does an avalanche move?
How does a bathtub vortex form?
What happens to waves when they break?
Come to the newly renovated Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory located in the Rinehart Coastal Research Center on the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution's Quissett Campus to see hands-on demonstrations, videos, and poster displays that will answer these and many other fascinating questions. There will be something for all ages to experience the excitement of fluid mechanics and oceanography.
The experiments will be simple yet exciting for a six-year-old child, a high school student, a graduate student, and everyone in between. This is an opportunity for the public to see what oceanography, why it matters, and what can be done in a fluid dynamics laboratory.
