Exploring Acidification

Exploring Acidification

April 26, 2013

Liz Drenkard, an MIT-WHOI Joint Program student assists participants of the Cambridge Science Festival in an activity that illustrates how ocean acidification affects the availability of the molecular “building blocks” corals use to build their skeletons. Liz’s research combines laboratory experiments and fieldwork with global climate modeling to investigate combined impacts of ocean acidification, warming, and changing nutrient conditions on coral reefs. The Cambridge Science Festival is a celebration showcasing fun activities and the leading edge in science, technology, engineering, and/or math (STEM) in the region.(Photo by Kathy Patterson, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
