Small Plate

Small Plate

November 27, 2018

It’s a simple fact of life in the ocean that there are more small marine animals than large ones, but that it’s easier to tag a large animal than a small one. Here, WHOI research assistant Kate Morkeski finishes plating copper to a miniature temperature, pressure, and accelerometer tag developed by chemist Aleck Wang. Biologist Aran Mooney plans to attach the tags to squid and other small, soft-bodied animals in order to learn how environmental conditions influence the behavior of marine organisms.
