Happy 250th
October 23, 2015WHOI recently celebrated a special anniversary on the Woods Hole campus—the 250th birthday of Challenger House. The WHOI “Tunes at Noon” ensemble provided entertainment and Smitty’s Ice Cream provided the refreshments. One of the oldest buildings in Woods Hole village, during the Revolutionary War Challenger House endured a raid by British soldiers in search of food stores. The soldiers were run off by Mrs. Swift, owner of the house who was known for her fine cheeses and her sharp tongue. Challenger House is currently occupied by WHOI’s Operations and Finance group.
