All Hands on Dock

It’s a longstanding tradition at WHOI that when a ship arrives or departs Woods Hole, folks come out to hail the ship and crew and lend a hand. On a cold Sunday in January 2013, the research vessel Atlantis returned from a drydock in Charleston, S.C., after receiving a new A-frame to lift the heavier, upgraded Alvin submarine. WHOI engineer Rod Catanach was at WHOI, working on Alvin. He put on his coat and gloves to face the 13°F wind chill and helped dock the ship.
