Community Housing

Our Community Housing webpage is a courtesy that we provide to landlords and to renters. It is an opportunity for landlords to post their housing listing to the Woods Hole science community, including WHOI and our affiliated science institutions in Woods Hole.

All inquiries regarding the property should be handled directly between the contact person listed on the advertisement and the prospective tenant. Landlords, property owners, and persons seeking roommates are responsible for reporting information fairly and accurately; WHOI does not endorse or inspect any of the listed properties. We caution all prospective tenants and roommates to verify all information you receive. We remind users that care should be taken when providing personal information by email or over the Internet. WHOI expressly disclaims any responsibility for any issues that may arise out of these listings.

Landlords:
As a matter of policy, we limit advertisements to private individuals and prohibit those of real estate agencies, management firms and restrict the listing of commercial property, housing wanted, or property for sale. We also reserve the right to decline advertisements that we deem inappropriate. As per Governor Baker's directive regarding short term rentals, we limit listings to monthly and yearly rentals only. We do not list weekly or nightly rentals.

Landlords shall not refuse to display, lease or sublease property posted to any person due to such person's race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status or physical disability and shall comply with the provisions of the Fair Housing Act (42 U.S.C. § 3601 et. seq.), as it may hereafter be amended, and with all applicable state and local fair housing laws.

If you would like to place an ad, click on "Add a Listing", complete the form, and click on "submit". Your listing will be sent to the Housing Office to confirm it comports with content, rental limit and landlord identity posted. Landlord identity and street addresses are used by the housing office only. It may take 5 to 7 business days for a request for listing to appear on the website. Advertisements are automatically purged from the list after 60 days.

Protect yourself from fraudulent activity. Phishing attacks (identity theft), fake check scams, and viruses sent by email attachment may occur. If you receive an email request for personal information, this is "phishing". If a person requests that you send them money for any reason, this is a scam. If someone sends you a suspicious attachment, do not open it.

Avoid becoming a victim of Internet fraud. Educate yourself about the various forms of fraudulent activity. We recommend that you visit the following websites:

The listings on this website are reviewed only to confirm they comport with content, rental limit and landlord identity. Properties are not inspected. Protect yourself against the common snares of renting. An excellent resource, particularly for students and first-time renters, is the Renters Guide for Students (http://www.bestcolleges.com/resources/student-renters-guide/), developed by BestColleges.com. Fair housing laws protect renters from discrimination. If you believe you were a victim of housing discrimination, you have the right to file a housing discrimination complaint with HUD. https://www.consumer-action.org/modules/articles/filing_a_housing_discrimination_complaint If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail the Housing Office at housing@whoi.edu.

Thank you.
