SUMMARY:WOODS HOLE PUBLIC LIBRARY
DESCRIPTION: Join the library on August 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for their annual Accessories & Adornments Event. The library is thrilled to announce the return of its highly anticipated Accessories and Adornments Sale\, taking place on Sunday\, August 9\, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This cherished annual tradition serves not only as a major fundraiser for the library but also as a joyful community gathering. The sale will feature a dazzling array of donated items\, including jewelry\, scarves\, shawls\, hats\, handbags\, gloves\, belts\, and men’s accessories such as ties\, belts\, gloves\, and hats (excluding baseball caps). In anticipation of the event\, the library is now accepting donations during open hours through Thursday\, August 6. Proceeds from the sale directly support the library’s programs\, services\, and collection development\, helping to keep it a vibrant and welcoming resource for all. At the same time\, the event promotes sustainability by giving new life to gently used accessories that might otherwise end up as waste. Past attendees have delighted in the opportunity to refresh their collections while discovering hidden gems at unbeatable prices. To ensure fairness and excitement\, a limit will be placed on the number of fine jewelry pieces each shopper may purchase. The sale will be set up throughout the libraries outside courtyard\, with fine jewelry and bags available inside in the lower-level Community Room\, offering shoppers plenty of space to browse and socialize. The library extends heartfelt thanks to the community for its ongoing support and generosity. Donations can be dropped off during open hours (Monday–Saturday\, 1:00–5:30 p.m.\, with extended hours on Mondays and Wednesdays). For more information\, please call (508) 548-8961. On August 24 at 6 p.m.\, the library will be holding a book talk titled: In Search of Worldviews: What Anthropology Can Tell Us About the Middle East with Andrea B. Rugh. Increasingly\, it is becoming clear that international communication is impossible without basic cultural knowledge. US officials admit as much when they say they failed in Afghanistan and Iraq by introducing too many programs that conflicted with local values. B J Atwood-Fukuda will read from her recent fiction and other writing at the library on Monday\, August 25\, at 6 p.m. B J has been sharing her work at the library for the past 14 years\, only missing last summer’s reading due to health reasons. This summer\, she is thrilled to be able to come back to share both her recent work dealing with her treatment and recovery as well as her recent fictional work.
