WOODS HOLE PUBLIC LIBRARY: Holiday Movies

December 16, 2019 @ 7:00 pm

The library will be showing holiday movies from past decades on three successive December Mondays: December 9, 16, and 23, all beginning at 7 p.m. Due to licensing restrictions for public viewings of these main stream movies, their names may not be printed in any articles about the events, so clues will be given. However, if people call the library at and ask the specific question “What is the title of the film you are showing?” the librarian is allowed to give a straight-forward answer, unimpeded by licensing. Clues to the films follow, December 9: This film was released in 1998. Although there is nothing about Christmas in the title, it has become a seasonal classic in the genre of romantic comedy. The story focuses on two business rivals, both book store owners, who despise each other in real life, unwittingly fall in love over the Internet. December 16: Originally released in 1945, this film has become a classic comedy of that earlier era. A twisted interpretation of its title could be “Thanksgiving in Rhode Island.” Although there have been recent versions of this story, this screening will be the original version. Finally, the December 23 film, the newest of the bunch, was released in 2003, and is a story about a boy who crawled into Santa’s sack as a baby only to come out at the North Pole, and subsequently was raised by an elf. Things get confusing and wildly funny when he comes back as Santa’s helper. All the films are offered free and all are open to the public.
