WOODS HOLE PUBLIC LIBRARY
October 5, 2022 @ 8:00 am - October 20, 2022 @ 5:00 pm
Will hold a casual tea party on Wednesday afternoon, October 19, to get people in the mood for viewing a film set in England’s earlier grandiose era. Starting at 2 p.m., various teas will be served, accompanied by locally made scones. Promptly at 2:30 p.m. the film will be shown. Thanks to the lease the library holds for showing films, the library is not allowed to name the film in the publicity. But most people will know exactly what this film is. After reading this brief description. The earlier series of the same title has become a staple for many households, especially those filled with Anglophiles. The series has been a long-time runner on PBS. The film to be shown at the library was just released in May of this year, and is the sequel of the full-length film, with the same actors, who have become mainstays. The title of the film is the same as the name of the big house which is the home of the very wealthy family featured in all the films and the series. This film follows the fabulously wealthy Crawley family in a new installment of the long-running story. It is set in 1928 and finds the family enjoying the last years of the Roaring Twenties in various gigantic homes before the Great Depression arrives. The family finds out they’ve inherited yet another gorgeous property, a villa in the South of France. Apparently one of Grandma Violet’s old paramours left it to her, which will no doubt stir up a scandal among the family members. Before the COVID pandemic, the library held quite a fancy tea party with antique china and linens, followed by a showing of the first film. Some participants even wore antique clothing. As we all emerge from the confined activities of the past few years, the library is taking steps to return to previous levels in programming, but in somewhat restrained levels. This event is free and open to the public, but of course donations would be welcomed. For more information visit the library’s website at woodsholepubliclibrary.org or call (508) 548-8961.
