Science objectives
The scientific objectives are to characterize the seabed in an area that extends from about 50 miles south of Marthas Vienyard to the 400 meter depth contour. We want to understand the ability to use knowledge of the seabed mineralogy to predict the transmission loss in the 25-10000 Hz band. We want to understand how the oceanography varability will affect the ability to infer the statistical properties of the seabed over a large spatial area.Science Activities
Deployment of acoustical arrays, towing continious wave sound sources, and deployment of Sound Undewater Signaling (SUS) explosive sources. Measuring the sound speed profile of the water column in coinincidence with the acoustical measurements.Pre-cruise planning meeting: Teleconference
