Science objectives
Obtain oceanic measurements from the north atlantic storm track to refine forecasting of upper-ocean shear set by the interaction of wind-forced near-inertial waves and mesoscale conditions.
Science Activities
We will be deploying subsurface full depth ocean moorings (up to 3) which will be comprised of floatation, current meters, sensors to measure temperature, salinity and conductivity, acoustic releases and will be fixed to the bottom with an anchor.
The moorings will be placed at approximately 59.5 N, 26 W in 2700m depth, subject to modification but within our study area box of 58N, 28W; 61 N, 28W, 61 N, 23 W; 58 N, 23 W. These moorings will be recovered in fall 2020. Exact mooring locations to be determined in early April 2019.

Shipboard Equipment Notes: We have also requested the TSE Spooler from the winch pool.
We are requesting to use the shipboard system to ping our releases once the moorings are deployed if possible. Otherwise, we have our own deckset which we can also use.
Shipboard Communication
Basic Internet access via HiSeasNetShipboard Communication Notes: We will be receiving daily updated sea surface height imagery from PIs based in the USA and will need to download these.

Specialized tech support (Seabeam, coring, other): With any time remaining after mooring deployment, we plan to profile with the shipboard CTD. This would be done as a 24-hr operation.
