Depth Range: 200 / 3000
Will the vessel be operating within 200 NM of a foreign country? no
Science objectives
Exploration of the region in between Virginia and Georgia for potentially sensitivie deep-sea communities in advance of future hydrocarbon exploration in the region. Focus on canyons, corals, and cold seeps.Science Activities
Multibeam mapping, oceanography from CTD casts, multicore deployments, Alvin dives with niskin sampling, push cores (for geochemistry, microbiology, and macrofauna), community collections, slurp sampling, live coral collections. Possible deployment and recovery of landers, depending on scheduling of other cruises before August.Pre-cruise planning meeting: Teleconference
Media personnel on board: Video
Two film-makers associated with the DEEP SEARCH project. Ivan Hurzeler has been on board before, shooting "Acid Horizon" in 2014 with Cordes
