Science objectives
This cruise is intended to accomplish a series of up to 3 Alvin dives in order to increase Alvin's maximum certified dive depth to 4500m. NAVSEA will participate in the cruise, including participation on the actual certifcation dive, as a part of the 4500 m certification process.Science Activities
Dive 1: 'warm up' dive to prepare the sub for operations to 4500m. Dive one is likely to be at depths at or near 3800 m, Alvin's current certification depth.Dive 2: Possible certification dive (depending on performance of Dive 1)
Dive 3: Contigency dive (weather, equipment issues etc) - optional based on results of Dive 1 and 2
No science other than Alvin certification and engineering evaluation diving is planned
