Area(s) of research or science topics:
Microbiology Education and Outreach. I develop educational materials and web based inquiry activities relating to microbiology in general and other cutting edge science within the Bay Paul Center. One of my main projects is the Microbial Life Education Resources (MLER- funded through NSF and part of the National Science Digital Library). I provide educational content and architectural design to the library. MLER incorporates existing microbial resources (lesson plans, lectures, interactive websites, journals, etc.) with those developed in-house through a collaboration with TERC. We also utilize our micro*scope website (http://microscope.mbl.edu) to enhance resources contained within MLER.

I come to the MBL with high school teaching experience and graduate research experience in microbial ecology. I've led workshops, presented at national conferences (such as NSTA), and am overall dedicated to the education and awareness of microbial diversity.

Due to my experience I am most comfortable working with high school students, but am open to those of all ages. I feel most qualified to provide mentoring in the biological sciences, primarily microbiology, microbial ecology, and astrobiology.

Time commitment:
I am willing to meet with a student on a regular basis.
