Effective Media and Production Contracts for TV and Film
Chris Land, WHOI’s vice president for legal affairs and general counsel, will hold the second talk in a lecture series titled “Barrister’s Bench Lecture Series,” on Wednesday, July 16 from 11:00 a.m. – noon, in Redfield Auditorium. The lecture is titled “Effective Media and Production Contracts for TV and Film.” The lecture, by Oscar winner and media attorney O¹Brian Kelly and TV and film finance attorney Meg Kaul, will cover how to get the best deal for you and WHOI. They will walk through the best practices for negotiating TV deals, preferable TV contract terms, and the options, benefits, and risks from production terms (exclusivity vs. rights of first review/refusal). They will also share inside tips on dealing with production companies and networks.

Crisis Management at Universities: Dealing with Risks to Reputation and Mission in the Modern Age
Chris Land, WHOI’s vice president for legal affairs and general counsel, will host the third talk in the “Barrister’s Bench Lecture Series” on Thursday, July 31 at 1:00 p.m., in Clark 507. The lecture is titled “Crisis Management at Universities: Dealing with Risks to Reputation and Mission in the Modern Age.” The lecture will be by Dan Meyers. Dan is director of Communications and Media, University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Prior to his university role, Dan was a producer and host at Colorado Public Radio, and before that held various editing or reporting positions at the Denver Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, San Jose Mercury News, and the Knight-Ridder Newspapers - Washington Bureau. Stories he wrote or edited have won various local and national awards and he shared in the 2000 Pulitzer Prize given to the Denver Post for its coverage of the Columbine High School shootings. Dan came to UC in 2009 as communications director for the School of Medicine. In that role, he supervised internal and external communications for the school, edited the school magazine, and oversaw the school’s web site.
